I've been thinking about my Mom a ton lately and all that she's taught me in my life. I'm realizing more and more how amazing she is and how BLESSED I am to have her for a Mom. I started making a list of all the things she's taught me and got a little carried away. I tried to keep the list to 50, but I ended up with 51. In no particular order:1 Love the Lord
Develop your own testimony
Prioritize
Be obedient
Be the kind of person you say you are
Keeping a clean house brings peace and order
Charging people 25 cents to get their stuff back keeps them from leaving it lying around
Every boy deserves 1 date, but if you don’t hit it off then tell him other boys deserve one date with you too
If a boy wants to kiss you, tell him that you don’t kiss boys wearing his color shirt
“Cat fur to make kitten britches, first pair for you”
“To each his own”
You don’t always need to be in the spotlight
Gossip doesn’t make friends
Homes are for socked or slippered feet, no shoes allowed
Follow-through on your commitments
Laugh at yourself
Say excuse me when you burp, toot or sneeze, even if it’s on an answering machine
Pray morning and night
Teach your children by example
Those with no table manners eat outside on the porch
Prize your family above friends
Hard work is rewarding
Pennies saved add up
If you buy a pair of pants and never wear them, cut them off at the knee and use them as work shorts
Margarine is also called “olio”
Don’t quit…even piano lessons
Fingernail and toenail hygiene is important and therapeutic
One gallon of paint can stretch really far
Service is something you shouldn’t need to be asked or expected to do
You don’t need credit for everything
Have dinner as a family
Crossword puzzles are an art and not for everyone
Don’t wash your hair every day…it will fall out!
Just because something is expired, doesn’t mean it’s bad…how does it smell?
There’s no shame in washing freezer bags and reusing them
Staying up too late can cause silliness, fits of laughter and resultant crying
How to sew
You should continue to develop talents throughout your life
How to cook
Give your children opportunities to seek out their own interests
Making things with your hands is rewarding and gives you really nice things to display in your home
Fill your house with pictures of your family rather than fine art
Clean behind your kitchen sink
You can put your finger in your nose if you’re just itching
Sitting up straight makes your chest look bigger
Be trustworthy and keep confidences
Doing the right thing isn’t always easy, but do it anyway
Be self-reliant
Don’t be too serious, but know when it’s time to be serious
Homemade food is better than eating out
Half an inch is really important when you’re short and totally legitimate

Moms are the best, huh?! It sounds like yours is pretty special! :) We're thinking of you and praying for you all.
Sounds like a smart lady! Some of those were pretty funny. I have to admit, I was hunching as I read this, but when I got to the one about sitting up straight, I straightened up!
I love this! My mom washes out ziploc freezer bags too! I used to think it was so weird, and now I do it! :) Your Mom is a pretty smart feller!
WOW!!! You ARE truly blessed!
Love #14... Loved 'em all actually.
