"Firsts"

I stripped Elly down to give her this popsicle and then I thought it might be a little cold if she dropped it on herself so I fitted her with this fun/funky bib. (It is Olivia the Pig for any of my fellow pig-lovers.) She LOVED the popsicle and made a huge mess. She's been teething so I figured it was time for this "first" and the cold probably felt great on her gums.
Her first two teeth finally broke through! They have been taking their sweet ol' time, but now they're out and Elly is now obsessed with teeth! Her teeth, your teeth, it doesn't matter, she wants to touch them. If you smile at her she'll reach her hand in your mouth and grab at your teeth...we'll have to have a talk about germs I guess. :) This picture is a little old, but you can definitely see the little guys. They are a little taller now and I swear there are 2 more on the way b/c she is still gnawing and drooling on everything, but what do I know!?
This isn't Elly's first time eating Mac & Cheese, but this is the first time I let her have the bowl and just go for it. At first she just squished her fingers around in it and flung it around the room a little (thanks kid, I need more to clean), but then she realized she could put it in her mouth and it was nothing but the shovel method after that. She ate SO MUCH it was actually pretty impressive. I was laughing so hard b/c it was going up her nose and sticking to her face. It hit me during this process that my baby is disappearing!! Didn't I just have this kid? She is turning into a little girl right in front of my eyes. By the end she was wearing about as much as she'd eaten, but she gave several satisfied belches (my ladylike darling) so I knew she was pleased.

Our Relief Society has issued a challenge about personal history and I believe this weeks assignment was to write down everything about our births. I'm up for a challenge (an easy one) so here it goes!
Andrew Victor Bang born January 28, 1980 in Mesa, AZ (Maricopa County) to Daniel Allan Bang and Helen Ann Shelley Bang. Andrew was 9lbs 3oz and born at 7:00 am on a Monday at Desert Samaritan Hospital. He was 2 weeks late and born cesarian after 20 hours of labor. His parents' insurance wasn't going to kick in until 2 weeks after his due date and while the Dr. kept suggesting Helen be induced, she managed to hold out those 2 weeks she needed!
Amy Janine Williams born December 4, 1980 (betcha didn't think I was that old!) in Tacoma, WA (Pierce County) to Ronald LaMar Williams and Kathryn Talbot Williams. I was 8lbs 4oz and prob. short! (I was my mom's smallest baby. She had another 8 pounder, two 9's and a 10lb 11oz baby!!) I was born about 10:30pm at St. Joseph's Hospital and I know my mom went home right away b/c they had no insurance at the time. I was jaundiced and had to have my heel stuck every day...my mom said it looked like a box of crayons was kept in my foot.
Evelyn Kathryn Bang born August 20, 2007 in Phoenix, AZ (Maricopa County) to Andrew Victor Bang and Amy Janine Williams Bang. Evelyn was 8lbs 14oz (big parent babies=big babies!) and 20 inches. She had a 14" head and after 21 hours of labor was born cesarian (thank goodness) after having some heart rate complications. She was born at 1:17am and we stayed at the hospital for 4 days. She was born at Banner Estrella Hospital and I would have stayed there a month had they let me....three words...AMAZING ROOM SERVICE. I'm not kidding....SO NICE! The whole hospital was amazing actually. Elly was jaundiced when she was born too and I only attended one heel stick before I couldn't take it anymore and then it was Daddy or Grandma's turn to take her.
Ok, enough for now!! Are you still reading??

Good for you to get all that information down on your blog. I have been so busy, I haven't had time yet, but I definatly want to start recording the info that they challenged us to do. I really like that they are giving us sample questions to use. Elly is super cute! Even if she is all messy when she eats! Hurray for her teeth!

Sometimes I think the babies have the right idea - there are some foods that would be so good to just shove into the mouth by handfuls!

I'm with you about Banner Estrella. It's really nice.

I get a little sad too when I think about how fast my kids are growing up!! She is so cute! I am the same about going to the hospital... when they bring warm sheets and you can have breakfast, lunch and dinner in bed, why would you want to go home!!? :) That is great that you are doing the personal history questions (I can't believe Andrews mom waited those 2 weeks! Wow!) I still need to do my questions...

Love your post! I'm with you on the room service at Banner Estrella. Definitely the best of the three hospitals I've delivered at. So fun to hear all your birth stories--I sooo need to do mine.

Your daughter is adorable and I bet she loved that popsicle. Teething is a really tough time. We are going through it with John he is a late teether. So I am right there with you. He has 7 now but I can't wait for him to be done.

My sister just introduced me to the Olivia books they are so funny. It is fun to keep in touch this way. Have a good one! :)

Your little girl is adorable! I miss that age, but I don't miss the mess that goes with the age :)

I guess it has been awhile since I looked at your blog because it looks like Elly is growing up so fast! She is so cute. I can't believe she is getting teeth. I love baby teeth...they are just so cute and minature, just like everything else on babies! Looks like you have had a fun month. I didn't know you were born in Tacoma? I was born in Bremerton but my parents only lived there for three more years and then moved to MN. I remember going back in the summers though and I have always loved the Sound and all the places around there.

Yep, I read the whole thing! I knew Elly and Isaac were close in age but I didn't realize they are just 5 days apart! What are you planning for her big #1 birthday? She is such a cutie. Too bad we don't live closer or Isaac might have a little girlfriend!

I love your description of her mac & cheese eating experience. And the popsicle is a great idea! I will have to let Isaac try one

Isn't it sooo hard to see your little girl grow up. I am dying realizing that my little peanut (born at 4lbs 10oz) is now walking, climbling and sleeping in a toddler bed. When does that happen? I thought it would take them a lot longer or something. It's sooooo sad though. :( You have got to send me those questions that your r.s. gave you. I would love to do that and put in my journal.

Hooray for teeth! Elly is going to be interested in so many more foods now! My girlfriend introduced me to a great product to help with eating messy foods- I just can't remember what its called! But it is basically a handle with netting on it and you can find them at any grocery store. You can put popsicles, bananas, etc in them and babies can suck right through the netting. Saves you from a big mess and Caden didn't even know the difference! Have fun with this exciting "first"!

I remember the stage, miss it.. not! Well, the cleaning up, no. The snuggles and someone needing you, yes. Enjoy that while you can. In a few years it really does change. She is so special.
